Meditations on the Holy Eucharist

Behold the Mystery.

In the stillness of the altar, between shadow and light, Christ descends. Bread is no longer bread. Wine is no longer wine. What remains in appearance is only a veil — and beneath it, God Himself.

"

It would be easier for the world to exist without the sun than without the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

— St. Pio of Pietrelcina

A Word of Welcome

Welcome to BlessedAtoms

BlessedAtoms is a humble digital sanctuary dedicated to the contemplation of the most sublime mystery of our faith: the Holy Eucharist. Here we gather the wisdom of Scripture, the teachings of the Catholic Church, the writings of her Doctors and Fathers, and the testimony of her Saints — all in reverent witness to the truth that bread and wine, by the words of a priest and the power of the Holy Spirit, become the very Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

The atoms of this world, so ordered by their Creator, bow in silent adoration when grace transfigures their substance. That is our wonder. That is our joy. That is the name we bear.

Sacred Scripture

The Bread of Life

The words of Christ Himself in the Gospel of John

48

I am the bread of life.

51

I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is my flesh, for the life of the world.

53

Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.

54

He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.

55

For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.

56

He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.

— Gospel according to John 6:48–56 (RSVCE)

When many of His disciples murmured and turned away, Our Lord did not call them back. He did not soften His teaching. He turned instead to the Twelve and asked, “Will you also go away?”

“Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”

— Simon Peter · John 6:68

Four paths for the pilgrim soul

On the Holy Sacrifice

“Every Holy Mass, heard with devotion, produces in our souls marvelous effects, abundant spiritual and material graces which we ourselves do not know.”

— Saint Pio of Pietrelcina

When we enter a Catholic church at the hour of Mass, we do not attend a re-enactment. We step into eternity. The veil of heaven parts. Angels fill the sanctuary. The saints of every age gather with us at one altar, where the Lamb who was slain stands forever interceding for us.

I Devoutly Adore Thee

— A hymn of Saint Thomas Aquinas —

Devoutly I adore thee, O hidden Deity,
Truly hidden beneath these appearances.
My whole heart submits to thee,
And in contemplating thee, surrenders itself completely.

Sight, touch, taste are all deceived in their judgment of thee,
But hearing suffices firmly to believe.
I believe all that the Son of God has spoken;
There is nothing truer than this word of Truth.

— St. Thomas Aquinas

May He who is hidden beneath the veil of bread
draw you into His unveiled glory.

— Amen —
